The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to check the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points ahead of the drop zone.

Following a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and time to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
